The Great Debate Continues

Okay, Ladies . . . let's put the "shanks" away and play nice.

Here is Mertis' reply to Ann:
Ann I think Karen asked that we have an intellectual conversation about this topic obviously you missed that as well.

With all due respect Ann you clearly showed who’s educated by your first comment. Are you an angry person? First of all I’m a very educated individual and it’s very obvious that you are talking strictly as a fan and not being objective.

Ann did you actually read what I wrote (maybe you should go back and reread it and then outline to the family what was so offensive and so uneducated)

1. Vick is in jail
2. Vick did lose his endorsements, his job, and basically his livelihood and after yesterday will be in jail for another 2 years. (What part of that is uneducated?)

Ann everyone is entitled to an opinion and that’s what I was giving (my opinion) And as far as news coverage on the patriots I live in Maryland and I’m a fan of sports and if they are covering the patriots the headlines aren’t about their cheating it’s more about them breaking records.

As far as one persons opinion Ann please be for real you are a New England fan of course you aren’t going to see it as wrong. My opinions aren’t based on headlines I have been following this from day one why do you think I brought this up. As many debates as we have had no one mentioned this (wonder why) that’s why I felt a need to bring it up. I don’t even think Karen asked the family about this before and Karen if you did please let me apologize right away.

As far as Marion all I said was she admitted to using steroids and gave back her medals (how is that uneducated) it wasn’t an assumption it was a fact.

As far as Barry sure he’s being indicted for perjury and obstruction of justice buts it’s still all related to knowingly using steroids but saying he didn’t.

The bottom line is Bilicheck didn’t get what he deserved and probably never will. Again coaches should be treated the same as the players if they do something illegal?

I wonder if Lovie Smith or Art Shell would’ve been treated the way Bilicheck was if it had been them??????????hmmmmmmmmmmm

I am just going to leave it as is. I wrote a thoughtful, factual response. I said your remarks were uneducated not you. I am hardly an angry person. I see all the events for what they are and choose not to cry foul and state that all these incidents are racially biased.
Sorry, but I can't work with offensiveness and ignorance.
Mertis, your response and calling me angry and uneducated is just rude and what is turning this whole commentary nasty.

The beautiful thng about a debate is the fact that everyone gets to have their say.

Ann you didn't leave it as is;
in your response you continued to degrade and humiliate me with your words but you were being Thoughtful and Factual.
It is what it is I wish everyone a Happy Holiday, be blessed.

My last words on this...I thought Ann's response to you wasn't a personal attack and all she was doing was pointing out parts of your commentary which needed to be clarified. If your opinion is that sign stealing in football is worse then running a criminal enterprise that is responsible for the cruel and in humane treatment of dogs and Vick's killing of dogs which, according to him didn't perform up to standards well, I think you need to rethink things. As for Deer hunting...Deers no longer have natural enemies and if left unchecked would become a nightmare.

ps and I'm not just taking her side because she is my girlfriend

I was staying out of this for a reason . . . .

What Mike did was wrong. Not just wrong . . . stupid. That is why I have lost all respect for him.

Yes, dogfighting has been around for hundreds of years. Many rural white men have "enjoyed" the "sport" withot incident. It still does not make it right.

I believe that Vick's celebrity added to the opportunity to shut down the enterprise in its entirety. He was used as the example.

I understand that Mertis may have wanted to make a point that blacks and whites are not always treated equally in out society . . . even now. I do not usually speak for other people and am not doing so now. This is just the way I see it.

While this may be true . . . it is not the rule. It may not have been the case in this argument. Maybe it was to a point.

Racism is alive and well in the United States. This is a fact. It is not the first thing I think about when something goes wrong or right on one side or the other. But it is still happening.

But I will tell you this - that door swings both ways. I have received more racist behavior persnally by blacks than I have by whites. As Keith so lovingly pointed out, I am a light-skinned black woman - not albino!!!!! I speak "proper." I speak proper English because Gordon and Sandra demanded it. I am educated. I conduct myself with dignity and respect. There are many blacks who seem to think I am trying to act "white." Since when do these attributes belong to a race of people?

If we look at each and every situation for what it is and not with regard to the color of the person involved, I believe that this world would be a better place.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
